The movie "2012" pretty much met my expectations exactly. There are some spectacular special effects but very little to actually care about. The film is populated with character-types rather than characters so its difficult to work up any empathy for the victims and survivors of the catastrophe portrayed.
The early sequence of the destruction of California is chock full of stunning imagery. The scale of destruction is staggering but the CG still manages to include human-scale details, but ultimately its like watching a fireworks display - there is plenty of well choreographed explosions but ultimately nothing moves you.
I could have written this review before I saw the film and little would have changed, make of that what you will. I guess I just like the fireworks.

Do you guys know what songs were made for the film, and what songs were used exclusively for the film? For example: the Hurricane Bells song was not made for the film, but couldn't be found anywhere else, whereas Death Cab for Cutie made it straight for the movie.
